Making one-day clothes and unused books useful
We believe the future of consumption isn't about owning more — it's about borrowing books and clothes from people you can actually trust. Other categories wait until we can review them the same way.
Unlock the value in books & clothes
GoRent was founded with a simple observation: Indian homes are full of textbooks that sit closed after the exam, and outfits worn once for a wedding. Meanwhile a neighbour is buying the same book or the same lehenga for a single week.
We did not want another “rent anything” board. Trust breaks when the catalogue is bigger than the review team. So we started with two categories we can actually check by hand — books and clothes — with KYC done by people and listings that go live only after staff approval.
More categories will come when we can review them the same way. Until then, we would rather be small and honest.
What Guides Us
These principles shape every product decision, policy, and interaction on our platform.
Trust First
Every feature starts with: would you lend your own notes or your own outfit to this person? KYC and listing approval are done by staff. Escrow and photos are the toolkit — trust is the point.
Community Powered
GoRent isn't a rental company — it's a community of Indians helping Indians. We celebrate hosts who go the extra mile and renters who treat items with care. Reviews and ratings keep everyone accountable.
Sustainable Access
Every rental is a vote against overconsumption. By maximising the utility of existing items, we reduce manufacturing demand, waste, and environmental impact — one transaction at a time.
Radical Transparency
No hidden fees, no surprise charges, no fine print designed to confuse. Pricing, deposits, cancellation policies, and dispute processes are clear before you book. Always.
India-First Design
Built for Indian cities, Indian payment habits, and Indian trust dynamics. Aadhaar verification, UPI payments, local language support, and handover logistics designed for apartment complexes and gated communities.
Relentless Improvement
We ship fast, listen harder, and iterate constantly. Every support ticket, review, and feature request shapes our roadmap. The platform you use today is better than yesterday — and tomorrow will be better still.
From a Garage Idea to a National Platform
GoRent began when co-founders Aditya Verma and Kavya Iyer — both Bengaluru-based product managers — hit the same wall from opposite sides. Aditya needed a semester’s worth of exam books he would never open again after June. Kavya owned a lehenga worn once for a cousin’s wedding that still occupied half a cupboard.
They met, compared notes, and realised the problem was not supply — it was trust. Classifieds were fast and unsafe. Warehouse rental companies were rigid. India needed a neighbour-to-neighbour model that checks identity and listings before money moves.
GoRent launched with books and clothes on purpose. A camera marketplace looks impressive in a pitch deck. A reviewed lehenga and a reviewed textbook are what we can stand behind on day one.
We still ship fast and listen. Improvement, for us, means clearer KYC reasons, faster listing review, and more honest copy — not a wider catalogue we cannot check.
After 18 months of building — securing seed funding from prominent Indian angel investors, partnering with Razorpay for payments, and designing a verification flow tailored for Indian identity documents — GoRent launched in Bengaluru in early 2025. Within six months, the platform expanded to Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Pune, and Chennai.
The response was enough to keep going. Hosts earned from idle notes and idle outfits. Renters skipped a purchase they did not need for a year. Communities formed around exam groups and wedding weeks — not around a fake “rent anything” promise.
Today, with a small team across product, trust review, and community, GoRent is still books and clothes. Vehicles, gadgets, and other categories are a later chapter — only when review quality can stay the same.
